G7 Summit 2026: Global Leaders Unite to Tackle Economic, Security and Supply Chain Challenges
The 52nd G7 Summit was held in Évian-les-Bains, France, from June 15 to 17, 2026. Hosted by France, the summit brought together leaders from the G7 nations—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States—along with representatives of the European Union. In a move to expand the scope of cooperation, France also invited leaders from Brazil, Egypt, India, Kenya, and the Republic of Korea to participate. Key Priorities Economic Stability: Leaders focused on addressing macroeconomic imbalances, industrial overcapacity, and the risks associated with protectionist tendencies in an uncertain global market. Critical Minerals: A major point of the agenda was strengthening the value chains for critical minerals and rare metals. The goal is to reduce dependency on a limited number of dominant players, particularly for the production of batteries, semiconductors, and low-carbon technologies. Security & Trafficking: The G7 committed to enhancing international coordination to fight organized crime, with a specific emphasis on securing ports to curb drug trafficking and the financing of terrorism. Digital Safety: Following up on previous AI summits, leaders discussed new initiatives to better protect children on digital platforms. International Solidarity: The summit aimed to build a new consensus on how G7 nations partner with developing countries, focusing on streamlining aid and making global partnerships more effective. Due to the summit’s proximity to the Swiss border, significant security cooperation was organized between French authorities and the Swiss Confederation, with Switzerland providing military and logistical support in the border region and at Geneva Airport for the arrival of world leaders.
